Chevy EV

Scott Chevrolet is used to answering customers’ questions about electric vehicles. Besides the usual queries about range, battery life, and service, lately, more people are asking about whether they can tow with a Chevy EV. If you’ve been wondering, we’re about to take a moment to set the record straight with some excellent news.

Are Chevy EV Models Capable of Towing?

That’s a great question, and the simple answer – “It’s complicated” – isn’t terribly helpful, so let’s break it down. Many electric vehicles’ motors are capable of similar torque and horsepower to their gasoline-powered counterparts.

However, towing is a complex equation involving the vehicle’s frame, axle weights, and cooling capabilities on top of its powertrain. So, while the Chevy Bolt EUV may look and perform like an SUV in many respects, it’s not tow-rated. However, that doesn’t mean that those requiring a tow vehicle are left out in the cold.

Which Chevy Vehicles Can Tow?

While the current Chevy EV lineup isn’t tow-rated, three models are coming to Chevy dealerships that offer impressive towing capabilities to back their ample cargo and payload capacities.

• Chevy Blazer EV: Deliveries start soon on this powerful ute that boasts 1,500 lb of towing and 25.5 to 59.1 cubic feet of cargo space.
• Chevy Equinox EV: Due later this fall, the Chevy Equinox EV promises a 1,500-lb tow capacity when properly equipped; its cargo space ranges from 39.4 to 57 cubic feet.
• Chevy Silverado EV: Due in Q2 2024, the first all-electric Chevy truck has a manufacturer-estimated towing capability of 10,000 lb.
